Who We Are:

The West Chester Fire Department is comprised of three 100% volunteer fire companies that are strategically located our coverage area. On average, the West Chester Fire Department responds to over 1,200 calls for service each year. The members of these companies provide fire and rescue services to all of West Chester Borough, as well as portions of West Goshen, East Bradford, Westtown, Birmingham, and Thornbury Townships. The entire department is certified to the 100% level in accordance with the State Fire Commissioner's Office training certification program.

Have you ever considered giving back to your community?  There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer at one of our three locations. We are looking for members who are 14 and older, NO EXPERIENCE necessary. We will provide 100% of all of the training required at no cost to you. The West Chester Fire Department has many other great benefits. Simply fill out of the contact form below and one of our representatives will contact you to discuss volunteering with our department.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Firefighters: Help save lives and protect property in our community. In the exciting world of firefighting you’ll learn to do things like extinguisher a fire, perform search-and-rescue, and assist those in need.

Junior Firefighters: Gain experience around the fire house as a teen, lend a hand and begin to learn the fire training that will prepare you to become a firefighter at age 18. Our Junior Firefighter program begins as young as 14 years old. Junior Firefighters follow applicable Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws and require working papers from their respective high school. Serving as a Junior Firefighter is a great way to establish work ethic and build community service.
Fire Police: Volunteers whose primary role is to protect fire department and other emergency services personnel at incidents. Fire Police duties include traffic control at the scene of an accident, crowd control on a fire scene, assist police departments as requested, traffic and crowd control for public events, assist in searching for missing persons, and establishing warning barriers for hazardous conditions on roadways.
Administrative volunteers: Non-emergency volunteers play a significant role for our fire companies. They help teach fire safety, assist in fundraising events, help with company administrative functions such as bookkeeping and human resources, website maintenance, recruitment, and other duties. All skill sets are welcomed!
Emergency Medical Services: Many West Chester Fire Department Firefighters are EMTs. However, around the West Chester community, Good Fellowship Ambulance Company provides the primary basic and advanced life support care at emergency incidents and special events. Additionally, West Chester University maintains a volunteer student emergency medical service organization that provides quick response basic life support services to the campus community.
